To the woman – a Mother’s Day poem

To the woman who is the mother
of the man I am
To the woman who is the mother
of the boy I was
To the woman who is the mother
of the son we are raising
To the woman who is the mother
of the father who raised me
To the woman who is the mother
of the mother who raised me
To the woman who is the mother
of the baby she could not keep
To the woman who is the mother
of the baby who needed her
To the woman who is the mother
of the boy I first cried to
To the woman who is the mother
of the girl I first dreamed to
To the woman who is the mother
of the teacher who gave me poetry
To the woman who is the mother
of the boss who gave me work
To the woman who is the mother
of the doctor who healed me
To the woman who is the mother
of the person who hurts me
To the woman who is the mother
of the reader I write for
To the woman who is the mother
of the reader I read for
To the woman who is the mother
of the person who sees me
To the woman who is the mother
of the person who ignores me
To the woman who is the mother
of the stranger who sits with me
To the woman who is the mother
of the stranger who stands with me
To the woman who is the mother
To the woman who would be the mother
To the woman who will never be the mother
