Family Sounds

Family Sounds by Dom Conlon illustrated by Jools Wilson

At first I hear…

SCHLOP SCHLOP SCHLIP
SCHLOP SCHLOP SCHLIP

I can hear my sister eating chips
and it’s getting on my nerves.
I turn my music up to ten,
That’s just what SHE deserves.

WHIRRA WHIRRA WHIR
WHIRRA WHIRRA WHIR

I can hear my brother drying his hair
and it’s getting on my nerves.
I jump upon the floor and shout,
That’s just what HE deserves.

BANG BANG OW
BANG BANG OW

I can hear my mum mending chairs
and it’s getting on my nerves.
I pull a face and shake my head,
That’s just what SHE deserves.

JABBER JABBER JAB
JABBER JABBER JAB

I can hear my dad upon the phone
and it’s getting on my nerves.
I wave my arms into the air,
That’s just what HE deserves.

So I’ve got the music turned up loud
And I’m jumping up and down
My head is shaking side to side
And I’m waving to the sound.

They don’t see me getting mad,
They just see me dancing.
WE’RE JOINING IN! WE’RE JOINING IN!
The energy’s entrancing.

I hear my sister start to shout
I hear my brother start to clap
I hear my mum begin to sing
I hear my dad begin to tap

My family are dancing with me
Not getting on my nerves.
They’ve copied me and made me laugh
It’s more than I deserve.
