If Doug dug down as deep as he could,
Doug would dig down deep in the mud.
If Doug dug down deep in the mud,
Doug would be stood as deep as he could.
If Doug was stood as deep as he could,
Doug would be stood in very thick mud.
In the very thick mud in which Doug stood,
Doug would carry a wriggly grub.
With the wriggly grub in one paw,
you’ll never believe what Doug saw.
What Doug did saw in the hole he did dig,
were two eyes and a nose twitching big.
Two eyes and nose from out of a hole,
could only mean a curious mole.
A curious mole in a deep dark hole
can look a lot like a lump of coal.
A curious mole the colour of coal
might sniff for a whiff on digging Doug.
The sniff for a whiff on digging Doug
is a wormy stench in a mouldy trench.
But that wiggly worm would rather not stay,
and so off it did wriggle and jiggle away.
To rush and to push as fast as it can,
faster than ever a worm ever ran.
To rush and to push from Doug and his son,
a worm on the turn is having no fun.
But that worm on the turn is needed by Doug,
it’s dinner for two is that juicy old bug.
Doug rumbles and tumbles and follows on after
chasing his dinner with no sign of laughter.
They chase through the hole, worm and then mole
until they appear through the very top hole.
Who gets to eat is a surprise to the two…
…when down from the sky, a big bird flew.
A big bird spies the little worm peek
and GULPS IT DOWN into its beak.
Now the mole in the hole won’t make a peep,
but digs back down where Doug dug deep.
